Which pregnancy test should you buy?

When to test
The day of your missed period is the reliable answer. Testing earlier can work, but a negative before your period is due tells you very little because hCG may simply not be high enough yet. Reading the result
Any second line, however faint, is a positive. Faint lines happen when hCG is still low, which is normal very early on. What does not count is a line that appears after the time window printed on the instructions, usually 10 minutes; that is an evaporation line, not a result.
