Two design details set it apart from ordinary strips. The wide absorbent tip turns pink the moment it takes up urine, so you know you sampled correctly. Try not to drink a lot of liquid before testing. Take the test out of the foil wrapper and remove the cap. Hold the colour change tip pointing downwards in your urine stream for a full 5 seconds, or dip it for 5 seconds in a urine sample collected in a clean, dry container. The tip turns pink as it absorbs. Re-cap the test and lay it flat. A blue line must appear in the control window for the result to be valid. A plus sign can appear in 1 minute if your period is already late, but wait the full 3 minutes to confirm a minus sign, or if you are testing before your missed period. Read the result within 10 minutes and ignore any change after that. Use first morning urine if you are testing early.

How do I read the windows?

What if the plus sign looks faint?
A faint plus is still a positive. Early in pregnancy hCG levels are low, so one of the lines that make up the plus can look lighter. Read the result within 10 minutes and ignore any change that appears after that.
