The problem is that half the people who try it end up with either stubble that returns in three days or an angry red patch that stings for a week, and then decide the product is rubbish. It usually is not the product. It is the timing, the skin prep, or buying a formula meant for legs and using it on the face. The rules that stop a chemical burn
Almost every bad experience with depilatory cream in Pakistan traces back to one of these.
- Patch test for 24 hours. Put a coin sized amount on the inside of your forearm, leave it the stated time, wash it off, then wait a full day. Redness that fades in an hour is fine. Itching, burning or bumps the next day means that formula is not for you.
- Never leave it on longer than the label says. The instruction usually reads five to ten minutes. Leaving it fifteen because the hair "is not gone yet" is how people end up with a burn. If hair is still there at the maximum time, that formula is too gentle for your hair, not too slow.
- Do not use it right after a hot shower or hammam. Warm, softened skin absorbs more and reacts harder. Wait at least half an hour after bathing, and do not use it on skin that has just been scrubbed or exfoliated.
