How to Check if La Roche-Posay Is Original in Pakistan

La Roche-Posay has no country website for Pakistan. Open the brand's international site and the nearest one listed is its Middle East site, which tells you something useful before you buy: every bottle of Anthelios or Cicaplast sold here was imported by someone, and how carefully depends on who that someone was.

That gap is where fakes live. This guide walks through the checks that actually help, using the brand's own ingredient lists and pack details, in the order you can do them: before you pay, when the parcel arrives, and once you open it.

The quick answer, and the La Roche-Posay we stock

La Roche-Posay's own advice is short. Its counterfeit prevention guide on its Canadian site says authenticity "begins with selecting the right point of sale" and recommends buying only from authorised retailers and pharmacies. The brand also warns that counterfeits "may contain ingredients of unknown origin or substandard quality." Everything below is a backup for when you are not sure about the seller.

If you would rather skip the guesswork, these are the three La Roche-Posay products people ask us about most, with today's prices pulled live from our catalogue:

The full range is on our La Roche-Posay brand page, with cash on delivery across Pakistan and a returns policy for damaged or wrong items.

Why La Roche-Posay is worth faking

The honest reason is price. A genuine 50ml UVMune 400 is an expensive bottle, so a convincing copy pays well. And a sunscreen is the worst possible product to get wrong. A fake moisturiser might just feel cheap. A fake SPF50+ can leave you thinking you are protected while you tan, burn or darken your pigmentation.

The US FDA puts the risk plainly in its guidance on cosmetic shelf life: products re-sold over the internet "may be past their shelf life, already used, diluted, or tampered with," and some "may even be counterfeit." Those are four different problems, and the checks below catch most of them.

Check 1: the price for the exact same product

La Roche-Posay sells several Anthelios UVMune 400 sunscreens that look alike: the Invisible Fluid, an Oil Control Fluid, a Hydrating Cream, a Tinted Fluid and an Anti-Dark Spots Fluid, all listed on the brand's Middle East site. Prices differ between them, so compare like with like: the same version, the same size.

For reference, two large Pakistani retailers listed the UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid 50ml at Rs 8,000, and the Cicaplast Baume B5+ 100ml at around Rs 8,000, when we checked in October 2026.

A bottle of the same size offered at a small fraction of that, especially by a page with no address or returns policy, is the first red flag. A low price is not proof on its own; it could be a smaller 40ml Cicaplast or old stock. It is the reason to look harder.

Check 2: read the ingredient list against the brand's own

This is the most useful check, and the one fakes fail most often, because counterfeit labels are usually copied from old photos. La Roche-Posay publishes the full ingredient list on each product page, so you can compare it with the back of your box.

Anthelios UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid

The filter that makes UVMune 400 special is Mexoryl 400, and on the label it appears under its chemical name: methoxypropylamino cyclohexenylidene ethoxyethylcyanoacetate. On the brand's Middle East page for the Invisible Fluid, the list starts with aqua, alcohol denat., triethyl citrate, diisopropyl sebacate and silica. It also includes drometrizole trisiloxane (Mexoryl XL) and terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid (Mexoryl SX).

If your "UVMune 400" box has no Mexoryl 400 name on it, you are either holding an older Anthelios formula or a fake. Note that alcohol denat. is the second ingredient on the brand's own list, so a light alcohol smell on application does not by itself mean something is wrong.

Cicaplast Baume B5+

The Cicaplast Baume B5+ page lists aqua, hydrogenated polyisobutene, dimethicone, glycerin and shea butter first, then panthenol. Further down you should find madecassoside, Tribioma, and three minerals: zinc gluconate, manganese gluconate and copper gluconate. Our listing names Tribioma as a key ingredient too, so a box that says B5+ but lists no Tribioma does not match.

Effaclar Duo+M

On the brand's African site page for Effaclar Duo+M, the list includes niacinamide, zinc PCA, 2-oleamido-1,3-octadecanediol (the Procerad ceramide), capryloyl salicylic acid (LHA), salicylic acid, vitreoscilla ferment and piroctone olamine. Unlike the two products above, it also lists parfum, so a light scent is expected here.

Lists can change slightly between markets and formula updates, so a small difference in order is not automatically a fake. Missing headline ingredients, spelling mistakes in ingredient names, or a list printed only as a sticker over another language are the warning signs.

Check 3: the batch code and the open-jar symbol

Look for a short production code on the tube or bottle, separate from the barcode. CheckFresh, a free cosmetics date decoder that lists La Roche-Posay under L'Oréal, shows valid codes as short runs of letters and numbers such as 38U60OG or SGT20WA. A long string of digits is a barcode, not a batch code. If the box and the container both carry a code, they should match.

A decoder only reads a date from the letters you type; it does not check them against the factory, and a counterfeiter can copy one real code onto a thousand fakes. So a code that decodes is a pass, not proof. A missing, scratched-off or undecodable code is a real reason to ask the seller questions.

Then find the open-jar symbol. The NHS explains that the number and M inside it show how many months a sunscreen lasts once opened. La Roche-Posay lists 12 months after opening for the UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid and Effaclar Duo+M, and 6 months for Cicaplast Baume B5+. A different number on your pack is worth a second look.

Check 4: the packaging on arrival

Look before you open anything. On the genuine Invisible Fluid, as in our own photo of the bottle, the front carries the orange La Roche-Posay square, "Laboratoire Dermatologique," the words "Fluide Invisible / Invisible Fluid" in French and English, and a small "UVA" in a circle next to "UVB." The NHS says that circled UVA mark shows a sunscreen meets the EU standard for UVA protection.

  • Printing: text should be sharp and evenly aligned. Blurry letters, faded orange or a crooked logo are warning signs.
  • Product name: the version on the box (Invisible Fluid, Oil Control, Hydrating Cream) should match what you ordered.
  • Size: the volume printed on the pack should match what you paid for, 50ml for the sunscreen and 100ml for our Cicaplast.
  • Seal and cap: a product that looks opened, has residue around the cap or arrives part-empty should go straight back.

Take photos of the pack and the parcel now. If something is wrong, you will need them to claim a replacement or refund.

Check 5: texture and smell once opened

The brand describes UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid as an ultra-light, non-greasy, non-sticky fluid, and says 97.3% of users in its 14-day study of 113 people saw no white marks after applying it. So a thick, chalky cream that leaves a white cast does not match. Cicaplast should be a rich balm that is not greasy; a runny or grainy one does not match either.

The same FDA page adds that heat can make preservatives break down, and its advice on using cosmetics safely is to throw away any product whose colour or smell changes. That covers genuine stock stored in a hot warehouse through a Pakistani summer as much as it covers fakes.

What to do if you think you bought a fake

Stop using it, and do not rely on it as sun protection. Keep the product, the box, your order details and your arrival photos together, then ask the seller for a refund. If you bought on a marketplace, open a return or dispute before the window closes.

Until you have a sunscreen you trust, the NHS advice still holds: use shade and clothing as well as sunscreen, and choose one with at least SPF30 and 4-star or circled UVA protection.

If your skin reacts, stop the product. The NHS describes contact dermatitis as itchy, dry, cracked or blistered skin after contact with an irritant, and notes it can look dark brown, purple or grey on darker skin. See a doctor if the reaction is severe, spreading or does not settle.

Frequently asked questions

Is La Roche-Posay sold officially in Pakistan?

La Roche-Posay's international site lists no Pakistan country site; the nearest is its Middle East site. Stock in Pakistan is imported by retailers, which is why prices and freshness vary between stores and why these checks matter.

Does a batch code prove my La Roche-Posay is original?

No. A decoder reads a production date from the code you type, but it cannot tell whether the code was copied. Treat a code that decodes as one good sign, and combine it with the ingredient, packaging and texture checks.

My UVMune 400 smells slightly of alcohol. Is it fake?

Not on that alone. The brand's own ingredient list for the Invisible Fluid has alcohol denat. as the second ingredient. Check for the Mexoryl 400 name on the box and the light, invisible texture instead.
